Boston EMTs Help South End Mom Avoid 2nd Hallway Delivery

Tina Marie Stewart and Chris Mancuso arrived to find an expecting mom about to deliver.
“She was coming down the stairs all ready to go. She stopped, and my partner said, ‘You don’t want to deliver in the hallway, do you?’” Stewart told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens.

Stewart and Mancuso managed to get the new mom, who was not identified, into the ambulance on the side of Massachusetts Ave., but that’s as far as they’d make it.
“She was really calm. She rested when she needed to. She pushed when she needed to,” Mancuso said.
At 5:04 a.m., they helped deliver a healthy baby boy.
Once the delivery was over, mom and son were transported to the hospital, where they’ll spend the next couple of days.
“It was just pure joy to do something that was – to bring life into the world and see something so nice, different from what we have to deal with on a daily basis,” Stewart said.
Believe it or not, the woman told Stewart it’s actually the second time that EMTs have had to deliver one of her babies. Her first, delivered by different EMTs, was actually in the hallway that Mancuso referenced on the way out to the ambulance.
